Claudia Von Vacano
Claudia brings 14 years of program management experience, working nearly 10 years at the University of California. While working at various educational institutions, she managed multi-million dollar budgets and successfully implemented large-scale projects. Claudia also brings to the digital humanities program a richness of interdisciplinary experience, having worked in fields such as data-intensive social science, education, design, art practice, and literature.
Claudia joined the UC Office of the President in 2005. At the UC Office of the President, Claudia coordinated a $9.35 million dollar a year teacher professional development program. She worked with the California Subject Matter Project (CSMP), which has nine statewide executive directors and 97 sites on campuses of the UC, California State University (CSU), and independent colleges. She was also the lead author of several legislative reports and coordinator of accountability for outreach programs. She led social media and publicity campaigns.
Subsequently, Claudia played a core role in bringing the Social Sciences Data Laboratory (D‐Lab) from its conceptual blueprint three years ago to a thriving cross‐domain center serving data‐intensive research needs in departments and professional schools across campus. She joined the D‐Lab in October 2012, and brought with her expertise in program development, project management, communications and evaluation. These skills very quickly placed her in a central position in developing programs and initiatives in the D‐Lab and in developing the management infrastructure and processes to coordinate and harness the efforts of staff and graduate students to launch services.
