Telling the UC Story with Data
Leveraging Institutional Data to Tell the University of California’s Story: An Introduction to the UC Accountability Report and Information Center, by Pamela Brown, Vice President of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP) for the UC.
Matrix is located on the 8th floor of Barrows Hall, on the UC Berkeley campus, near Telegraph and Bancroft Avenues, just up the hill from Sather Gate. There are entrances at both ends of the building, but only one of the elevators on the eastern side goes directly to the 8th floor. You can alternatively take the stairs to the 7th floor and walk up the stairs from there.
Higher education institutions are increasingly called upon to account for the value of a college degree and demonstrate the return on investment of research. As the largest public academic research institution in the world, the University of California (UC) must lead the way in advocating the purpose and importance of public higher education. The UC Accountability Report provides the eighth annual comprehensive assessment of the University's progress in meeting key teaching, research, and public service goals across its 10 campuses. Similar data is presented in an interactive form in the Information Center. Both data sets support the University's strategic planning, budgeting, and performance management, and help the governing Board of Regents identify the most important policy issues facing the UC.
In a presentation at Social Science Matrix, Pamela Brown will share some of the key findings from the most recent Accountability Report, as she demonstrates how the Office of the President of the UC uses institutional data, both to improve accountability efforts and tell the UC story.
Pamela Brown is the Vice President of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP) for the University of California. She began working in the Office of the Provost at UC Office of the President (UCOP) in November 2013. IRAP produces evidence-based analysis and reports that inform and shape university management, strategic planning, policy, and decision support. Prior to coming to UCOP, Pamela worked for sixteen years at UC Berkeley, where her last role was Executive Director of the Office of Planning and Analysis (OPA). In OPA, she partnered with stakeholders and led improvements in the campus reporting and planning environment. Pamela received her Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Public Policy and her B.A. in Applied Mathematics both from the UC Berkeley.
