Beyond Clicktivism
Exposing Human Rights Violations in the Digital Age
Matrix is located on the 8th floor of Barrows Hall, on the UC Berkeley campus, near Telegraph and Bancroft Avenues, just up the hill from Sather Gate. There are entrances at both ends of the building, but only one of the elevators on the eastern side goes directly to the 8th floor. You can alternatively take the stairs to the 7th floor and walk up the stairs.

The rapid expansion of digital connectivity and tools poses new challenges and opportunities for organizations like Amnesty International. Although researchers working to expose human rights violations have access to more information than ever before—90 percent of humanity's data has been created in the last few years—the organizational capacity to sift through mountains of information for evidence of human rights violations is limited. Fortunately, we have an immense opportunity to connect with thousands of tech savvy digital volunteers who have a genuine desire to support our cause and contribute in a meaningful way. Join us in exploring how Amnesty International is using digital activism and technologies to boost organizational capacity and develop research.
This panel discussion is co-sponsored by the Human Rights Center and the Human Rights Program. Featured speakers include Milena Marin, Senior Innovations Campaigner at Amnesty International, where she leads Alt-Click; Sam Dubberley, Manager of the Digital Verification Corps at Amnesty International and co-founder of Eyewitness Media Hub; Scott Edwards, Project Manager for Science and Human Rights at Amnesty International; and Christoph Koettl, Emergency Response Manager at Amnesty International USA.
