Democracy and Religious Pluralism: India, Pakistan, and Turkey in Comparative Perspective"
A Two-Day Conference
Matrix is located on the 8th floor of Barrows Hall, on the UC Berkeley campus, near Telegraph and Bancroft Avenues, just up the hill from Sather Gate. There are entrances at both ends of the building, but only one of the elevators on the eastern side goes directly to the 8th floor. You can alternatively take the stairs to the 7th floor and walk up the stairs.
This is the second workshop in the larger program on "Religious Toleration and Plural Democracies," a project which examines the renegotiation of the relationship between religious actors and democratic institutions to identify and promote a culture of coexistence within democratic society. Co-organized by Karen Barkey, the Haas Distinguished Chair of Religious Diversity at the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society and a Professor of Sociology at University of California, Berkeley, and Sudipta Kaviraj, Professor of Indian Politics and Intellectual History at Columbia University, the workshop will include paper presentations from international and local scholars.
