Network Analysis: From Description to Inference, with an Emphasis on Application in R
Part of the ICPSR 2016 Summer Workshops at UC Berkeley
Matrix is located on the 8th floor of Barrows Hall, on the UC Berkeley campus, near Telegraph and Bancroft Avenues, just up the hill from Sather Gate. There are entrances at both ends of the building, but only one of the elevators on the eastern side goes directly to the 8th floor. You can alternatively take the stairs to the 7th floor and walk up the stairs.

Network Analysis: From Description to Inference with an Emphasis on Application in R
Instructor: Skyler Cranmer, Ohio State University
This course introduces the fundamentals of two distinct types of network analysis. First, we will cover a variety of techniques, both graphical and statistical, for describing networks. Second, we will consider techniques for drawing inferences about network generating processes.
These workshops will all be held at Social Science Matrix, 8th floor Barrows Hall.

Background
Since 1963, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) has offered the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research as a complement to its data services. The Summer Program provides a comprehensive program of studies in research design, statistics, data analysis, and social science methodology. Our instructional environment stresses the integration of methods of quantitative analysis within a broader context of substantive social research. Additionally, instruction is grounded in the hands-on analysis of research datasets. Our instructors are experts in their fields who are adept at making complex subject matter understandable. Because of the range of methodological instruction, the opportunity for intensive study, and the quality of instruction and supporting facilities, the Summer Program has become internationally recognized as a preeminent learning environment for basic and advanced training in the methodologies and technologies of social science research.
The ICPSR Summer Program offers two four-week sessions that include a variety of statistical workshops and lectures, as well as workshops that examine the impact of various methodologies on specific substantive issues. Additionally, the four-week curriculum features nightly informal lectures presented by research scholars who have made important contributions to the development of social science methodology. Our four-week sessions take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the University of Michigan campus. The ICPSR Summer Program also offers numerous 3- to 5-day workshops on a variety of statistical topics and substantive issues. Many of these workshops take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as other locations across the United States and Canada.
